Homework
Every Friday children will receive an information sheet. This sheet with give a brief overview of what we have covered in school that week, what we will cover the following week and how you can help your child at home. This will also include homework sheets for the children to work on at home, which is consolidation of what they have learnt each week.
Reading
During week two, the children will be given a book with no words for you to share at home. This will establish story sequencing, you can talk about what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. Discuss what is happening on each page, look at the characters, the setting and encourage your child to predict what might happen next before you turn the page. This can be a bonding time, after tea, before bedtime whatever suits you and your child. They will also bring home a book from our Class Lending Library, this is for you to read to your child. You can record your child's response to the book, in the record book that will be sent along side both books. This can include if your child did or did not enjoy the book and why, things they discuss with you and maybe an annotated picture that your child has drawn. These books will be changed once a week on their specified day, which will be written on the sticker alongside their name. When your child has learnt some of their sounds they will be given blending books and then reading books with words.
Ten minutes reading together every day will make a difference and your child will gain a lifelong love of books!
PE
Every Monday children will take part in Movement Mondays. The children will engage in a variety of physical actitivies indoors and outdoors. The children need to come to school in their PE kit.
